Dates: August 25 – September 02, 2024
Once a year, tens of thousands gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. In this crucible of creativity, all are welcome.
We are excited to build Black Rock City with you again in 2024! Learn about our theme for the year, Burning Man 2024: “Curiouser & Curiouser.” This theme encourages participants to embrace their curiosity, explore the fantastical, and immerse themselves in a world where the extraordinary becomes the norm.
Planned Activities
1. Art Installations:
– The desert will transform into a vast art gallery, featuring hundreds of installations that invite interaction and wonder. From towering sculptures to intricate light displays, artists will bring the theme to life with creations that challenge the imagination.
2. Mutant Vehicles:
– These mobile artworks, often fantastical and whimsical, will roam the Playa, providing not just transportation but an ever-changing spectacle. Attendees can expect to see everything from giant mechanical creatures to glowing, dream-like carriages.
3. Theme Camps:
– Home to a diverse array of communities, these camps offer activities ranging from dance parties and live music to meditation sessions and educational workshops. Each camp is a unique microcosm of creativity and collaboration.
4. Workshops and Classes:
– Throughout the week, participants can join workshops on a variety of subjects such as sustainable living, creative arts, technology, wellness, and personal growth. These sessions are designed to inspire and educate.
5. The Man Burn and Temple Burn:
– The climax of the event, the Man Burn on Saturday night, is a fiery celebration of art and community. On Sunday night, the Temple Burn offers a more introspective and somber end to the festivities, providing a space for reflection and remembrance.
Event Schedule
– August 25: Gates open, and the city begins to take shape as participants set up camps and installations.
– August 26-28: Early days of exploration with smaller events, meet-ups, and initial workshops.
– August 29-30: Mid-week sees an increase in larger gatherings, major art unveilings, and interactive experiences.
– August 31: Friday night heightens the energy with significant events and showcases of art and performance.
– September 1: The Man Burn – a spectacular evening of fire, music, and celebration.
– September 2: The Temple Burn – a quieter, more reflective ceremony to close the event.
Helicopter Arrivals
Given the remote and expansive location of Black Rock City, many attendees choose helicopters as their mode of transportation. In 2024, approximately 1,500 participants are expected to arrive by helicopter. This mode of travel not only offers a quick and scenic journey to the desert but also provides a unique aerial perspective of the growing city below.
Preparing for the Adventure
For those new to Black Rock City, the **Survival Guide** is an essential read, offering advice on what to bring, how to stay safe, and how to make the most of the experience. Participants are also encouraged to engage with the community by filling out the **Volunteer Questionnaire**, which helps match them with opportunities to contribute, whether through art, labor, or other forms of participation.
Burning Man 2024, with its theme of “Curiouser & Curiouser,” promises to be a profound and transformative experience, inviting all who attend to delve into the depths of their curiosity and the heights of their creative potential. As the gates open and Black Rock City comes to life, participants will once again find themselves saying, “Welcome home.”
